Maschine 1.6 beta just dropped!
by Peter Dines
News and link are here. I just downloaded and installed, and I’m ready to click “restart”. Can you tell I’m excited? Updates as I open some plugins in it and see what happens!
Coincidentally, I’m almost finished working on Loupe, a Reaktor sampler designed especially for remixing melodic snippets. It’s a little bit like Splitter from the factory library but polyphonic and more usable / approachable. I designed it especially for use in Maschine after hearing that plugin hosting was coming.
And now, time to restart…
Update 1: a couple of hiccups on scanning plugins, but it finished and Maschine started. I just loaded an instance of Fabfilter One in Maschine. Oh man, all the FF1 parameters are named and available from the Maschine knobs. This is like Kore with a sequencer. INSANE. There are also per-group macro controls but I haven’t figured that out yet. Guess I should see if there’s a readme, eh what?
Update 2: And now I’ve gone and done it. I’ve loaded Reaktor in Maschine. Haven’t completely figured out how to control the parameters from the hardware, but some of them are mapped… I think it’s like in Kore where I have to sort and compress IDs and reload or something. But it works. I have to go lie down for a spell now.
Update 3: it’s very similar to Kore in some ways – for Reaktor instruments, especially ones you’ve built yourself, you have to sort and compress IDs, then save, then reload in order to get some parameters to show up. The good news though is, this means the controller talks to the plugins with VST automation, not stinky old MIDI, so the controllers are higher resolution.
Update 4: Ahhhh, I see now – if the Reaktor parameters are in no particular order – because for example your ADSR controls have random IDs that aren’t consecutive – you can right click on the parameter knob in Maschine and assign it to a macro control. And all this stuff has pattern-recordable automation. Insaaaaaaane.

This is friking awsome, with the new VST hosting and automapping Maschine has become the ultimate grrovebox. Applause for NI.
They really have pulled off a coup here. Barring any showstoppers, Maschine will almost certainly be my new favorite host.
Yes this is great! I love the way you can save the vst settings as a preset and then they are available from the browser. INSAAANE!
I didn’t even get to that point yet – the plugin integration is better than I expected, but then again they were already sitting on a lot of this technology from Kore 1 and 2.
Yeah that’s true. You’ve been able to load and save vst patches like this in kore for years! I’ve never used the hardware though so this is the first time i’ve experienced this type of integration. I’m going to have to take another look at Reaktor cause i’ve always liked the instruments but never been a fan of the interface or editing with a mouse.
